Join us for the kick-off of Bermuda's College and Career Academy, with Kevin Baird, Chairman of the Global
Center for College & Career Readiness. We'll review the latest global research, and identify specific
priorities for Bermuda's schools. Working with Bermuda's own Hope4Life Foundation, the College & Career
Academy initiative is designed to create deep capacity within our schools to reach all of our young people,
so they are ready for the demands of the 21st Century Workplace anywhere in the world.
We know that supporting teaching & learning through coherent alignment for sustainable capacity is the key step
in getting students college and career ready. We will discuss with the education community the issues specifically
facing Bermudian youth on their path to college and career readiness.

FACULTY
Kevin Baird, Chairman, Center for College & Career Readiness
A dynamic speaker and consultant, Mr. Baird is a noted leader in educational technology, media, and school
improvement. An expert in global management, he has implemented educational research on several continents.
Kevin’s primary areas of practice are leadership development and systemic improvement using data for differentiated
instruction and scaffolded support for teachers. He is the creator and author of The Consistency and Constancy Framework
for School Leadership. Mr. Baird works with district leadership, boards of education, principals, and staff development
coaches to create capacity for sustainable, student-centered improvement with measurable, replicable outcomes.
David Bascome, MBE, Founder, Hope4Life, Professional Soccer Player
David Bascome began his soccer career at the age of 7 in his native country of Bermuda. By the age of 16 David was playing
First Division soccer for the North Village Club, Bermuda. At age 18 he made his first
appearance for the Bermuda National Team. By age 20, David signed his first professional contract with the Harrisburg Heat
of the National Professional Soccer League, USA.
He is now the Commissioner of the ISL (Island Soccer League) in Bermuda and is the Founder of the Hope for Life programme,
which is the fight against drugs and violence.
Dr. L’Tanya Simmons, Chief Education Officer, The Center for College & Career Readiness
Dr. Simmons has broad experiences designing educational programs driven by standards and specific accountability measures,
while coordinating the required support services for schools, the school community, and school district personnel. She
worked on the design of accountability systems that measured the degree to which students became “smarter” as a result of
the services and products provided. Today, she serves as Chief Education Officer for The Center for College and Career
Readiness, and is leading efforts to prepare educators and students for College and Career Success!
