| OPTIONAL OVERVIEW SESSIONS
- THURSDAY, JUNE 28 |
We know that most educators are well-versed in the basics of Common Core Standards, but some may opt to join us for a refresher
course on Thursday, June 28 at no additional cost. We will discuss the two assessment consortia, PARCC and SmarterBalanced,
discuss the organization of the standards, and how to begin implementation. Friday and Saturday’s sessions will feature more
in-depth discussions on assessment creation and analysis, instructional strategy, implementation for ELL and Special Ed
populations, and more. Thursday sessions are not recommended for all attendees, only those who are beginning their implementation
process, or looking for a review of the Standards.
All conference attendees have the option to register from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm on Thursday – before the official conference launch on Friday!

Meet our Featured Keynote Speakers:
Kevin Baird, serves as Chairman and Senior Faculty at The Curriculum Institute™ and the Center for College and Career Readiness.
Mr. Baird is a contributor to the National Pathway for Common Core Standards Implementation™. He is also the creator of the
Common Core Black Belt certification, and a national leader in the analysis and implementation of standards-based curricula and instruction alignment.
A dynamic speaker and consultant, Mr. Baird is a leading national consultant working with publishers, State Departments of Education,
schools and districts specializing in the implementation of Common Core State Standards. A recognized leader in educational technology,
media and school improvement, he has implemented educational improvement initiatives on several continents.
Peg Portscheller, a past Educator of the Year and Superintendent of the Year, brings real-world experience to leading
curriculum improvement initiatives. For 15 years, she served on the board of the Mid-continent Regional Educational Laboratory
(McREL) and is currently a consultant with Focused Leadership Solutions. She has worked with Doug Reeves as the Chief Learning
Officer for the Leadership and Learning Center, and has served as a union leader, teacher, and school administrator. Peg offers
educators pragmatic and “doable” strategies for getting teachers, unions, and school leaders moving.
